A strong graphite aroma introduces this red, whose plum, cherry, rose, tea and tobacco flavors build with intensity to the lingering finish. Graceful and balanced, this leaves a light dusting of tannins around the gums. Shows terrific texture and purity. Best from 2023 through 2047. 205 cases made.

Enticing, earthy scents of truffle, forest floor, violet, leather and woodland berry take shape in the glass. On the succulent palate, fine-grained tannins give polished support to juicy raspberry, cherry compote, licorice and a hint of tobacco. It's balanced, with fresh acidity. Drink 2020-2025.

The 2015 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a blend of mostly younger vine fruit from Cerretta and Baudana. Deep and expressive in the glass, the 2015 is a fabulous wine in its peer group. Smoke, tar, dark red fruit, iron and wild herbs add striking nuance to a Barolo that shows all the muscle and power of Serralunga while retaining a mid-weight feel. I would prefer to cellar it for at least a few years. The combination of beguiling aromatics, supple fruit and good supporting structure makes for a compelling, delicious Barolo.
